Bob was born in South Berwick, Maine in 1925 to Ethel (Dawson) Boston and William J. Boston. Bob met his wife Florence in East Hartford where they raised their family. He was a long time resident of East Hartford. He was predeceased by his lovely wife Florence of 40 years and his sisters Mary and Marjorie of Maine.
Bob is survived by his sister Edythe of NY and his adult children: Alan Hellmann and his wife Ann of Ventura, CA, Rowena James and husband Lee of Oakdale, CT and David Boston and his wife Jane of Marlborough, CT. He is survived by his grandchildren: Tom James and wife Kristin and their four children of East Hampton, CT and Tara Rovero of Marlborough, CT. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces. He was a wonderful and caring husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Bob was an electrician at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford and then worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 35 for 24 years. He co-owned New England Memorials with Florence. He retired in 1988 and enjoyed traveling, fishing and reading. Bob had a passion for growing dahlias and belonged to the CT and RI Dahlia Societies. He raised champion dahlias and his rose garden was the envy of the neighborhood. Bob could fix anything, was a master tinkerer, crafting a mantle clock and grandmother clock and helping neighbors with their engine repairs. He and his son David built the family cottage on Lake Bungay in Woodstock, CT, which his family enjoyed for decades. He attended Berwick Academy and played on the championship winning football team.
Bob’s family would like to thank his caregivers Tamara and Vivienne whose wonderful care allowed him to stay home for several years as his Alzheimer’s progressed. They would also like to thank the caring staff at Bayview Health Care Center in Waterford, CT where Bob called home in recent years.
He was a communicant of South Congregational Church in East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to a charity of choice. Per Bob’s wishes, there are no formal calling hours. His memorial service is on Saturday January 19th at South Congregational Church in East Hartford at 11:00 am.
