

Rollie served his country faithfully in the US Navy, Air Force, and Army. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in the Army and spent two tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. After the military, he went on to work at for the US Postal Service for 20 years.
Rollie was a member of many social affiliations such as the Elks Club, the Groton Sub Vets, the Sub Fleet’s “Dirty 30,” as well as others. He was also active with his outdoor interests such as golfing, fishing, and mountain biking. His most enjoyable activity was spending time with his grandchildren.
Rollie is survived by his former wife and friend Winifred Stephens; his son Michael Stephens and his wife Linda of Canterbury, his daughter Holly Stephens of Niantic, his daughter Nicole Fenney and her husband Tom of Waterford, and his daughter Erin Stephens and her husband Lotus Schwartz III of East Lyme; and his grandchildren Hillary, Joseph, Annalise and James Hodge, as well as Greta, Lotus and Reggie Schwartz; his sister Ann and her husband Bob Weir, of Missouri. Rollie is predeceased by his son, Daniel Stephens.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 22 at 11:00am at Fulton Theroux Funeral Home, New London. A calling hour will be held one hour prior from 10:00-11:00am.
