

Shirley Joslin Raub, 82, of Deerfield Road, Waterford, beloved mother and wife and treasured friend, a wise talented woman whom others sought out, passed to her well-deserved reward April 7, 2011, at home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Shirley was born August 19, 1928, to W. Glen Joslin and Mildred Lucille Diener Joslin, in Bellefontaine, OH. The youngest of four children, she grew up in the farming community, earning top grades and a full scholarship for pre-med studies. Later in life she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She received her training at Parkland General Hospital in Dallas TX and served at Garland Memorial Hospital. Moving back to Dayton, Ohio, she worked two years at Grandview Medical Center.
After marrying her second husband, Edward L (Ned) Raub, in 1972, she moved to Waterford and worked in the 1970s and 1980s at L&M in New London, caring for surgical patients under the direction of Dr. Malcolm Ellison.
Shirley leaves an accomplished family of four adult children, ten grand-children and one great-granddaughter. Her children are: Peggy Elder (Allan), head of physical therapy at Elizabethton TN Hospital; Peter Rathfelder (Jody), a senior physicist with Texas Instruments in Tucson AZ; Patricia R. Robbins (John), a teacher in Norwich, CT; and Penny Wilkinson (Glen) of Sachse, TX, an accounting assistant.
Calling hours will be 6-8 PM Wednesday, April 13, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Avenue, New London. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1830 Route 12, Gales Ferry, CT, Thursday, April 14, at 3 PM. Interment will be private at Jordan Cemetery, Waterford.
