She was born on October 31, 1917, in Groton, the daughter Nicholas and Anoinette Farinella Apicelli.
She was the widow of Frank H. Smith. They were married on July 24, 1939. He died on November 2, 1999.
Mrs. Smith was employed as a clerk at Bradlees in Groton for 16 years, retiring in 1980.
She is survived by her son Paul N. Smith of Quaker Hill; her daughters Barbara F. Carr of Groton and Carolyn S. Strickland of Niantic; her brother Harry Apicelli of Groton; her sister Angelina Fulton of Groton; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Jenny Ceravolo and John and Frank Apicelli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10am in Sacred Heart Church, 56 Sacred Heart Dr., Groton. Burial will follow in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 6-8pm at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, CT.
