Andrew “Andy” Preston Kraus passed away on January 4, 2013 at Ochsner Hospital in Kenner, La. He is survived by his two sisters Georgia DeLuca and Alice Kraus of New Orleans, Louisiana; his sons Gary Kraus and wife Connie Kraus of Lafayette and Bennett Kraus and his fiancée Kathleen Rieve of Houma, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Paul Kraus, Kristen Kraus, Drew Kraus, Shaun Kraus, Kelly and Leigh Rhodes; and two great granddaughters, Kara Kraus and Peyton Kraus. He was predeceased in death by his parents, George Henry Kraus and Alpha Stanga Kraus, and his granddaughter, Kara Kraus.
Andy Kraus was born in New Orleans, Louisiana where he was raised and graduated from Warren Easton High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 serving in several World War II Pacific actions including Guadalcanal, Okinawa and China. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to New Orleans where he wed Joy Muro Kraus. They were married for over sixty years before her death in 2009. He worked for AT&T advancing from lineman to district manager over a forty year career. He retired in Houma, Louisiana and enjoyed numerous hobbies including carpentry. He will be laid to rest in Hope Mausoleum following a private ceremony at Jacob Schoen Funeral Home. He will long be remembered for generously giving his time and talents to his family, friends, church and community.
