

Cassandra Anne Zanca, 64 years old, died Friday, February 26, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. of heart failure. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Cassie was the daughter of the late Catherine Wedge Zanca and Mario Joseph Zanca and the granddaughter of the late Amelia Jackson-Dixon and Harry Louis Dixon and Mr. and Mrs. Rosario Zanca. Beloved mother of Elizabeth Caminita Burns and Robert P. Caminita, Jr; beloved mother-in-law of Barry Wayne Burns and Bernadine Caminita; Beloved cousin of the families of Albert J. Pumila, Sr., Terrence Comeaux and Patricia Morin-Shenkel.
Ms. Zanca graduated John Mc Donough High School in 1963. She was in the first graduating class for EEG Technologists in the USA at Charity Hospital- LSU in 1970. Ms. Zanca worked within the Charity Hospital system for 20 years, before returning to school at the University of New Orleans where she graduated with honors earning a Masters degree of Chemistry Science Education. Ms. Zanca taught gifted and talented science for 23 years in Jefferson Parish at Grace King, Bonnabel, Riverdale, and Stella Worley Junior High School. Cassie was an award-winning artist and quilter. Cassie had a deep love for animals. All who knew her know she did not know a stranger. She is loved and terribly missed by her family and friends.
A visitation will be held at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 beginning at 6:00 PM. A brief prayer service will be held at 8:15 PM. Express condolences at www.schoencanalstreet.com.
