

Ellen Zahn Cook, age 83, passed away on May 19, 2010 at 5:19 a.m., after a brave and long struggle with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma for many years. She will be remembered with gratitude and joy by her husband of 64 years James R. Cook, daughter Elizabeth A. Cook of Houston, son James R. Cook, Jr. and daughter-in-law Nancy Frey Cook of Atlanta, and granddaughters Erin and Christine Cook of Atlanta and Ellen Cook of Houston. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Ada Zahn of New Orleans, and sister of Bettie Savoy and Ann Dunn of New Orleans and Sandra Cazeaux of Mandeville. Ellen loved her native New Orleans where she lived for eighty years before moving with her husband to Houston after Hurricane Katrina. Her spirited enthusiasm, opinions and generosity inspired the many people who loved and admired her. She was a homemaker, a wonderful New Orleans-style cook, an extraordinary seamstress and designer, and most of all, a dear wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She particularly loved playing bridge with her good friends in New Orleans and never stopped thinking of them after she moved to Houston. She will be deeply missed but remembered with enormous affection. The family expresses their great appreciation and thanks to Dr. Elizabeth McBurney, MD and Dr. Bonnie Boyd, MD, Ellen’s doctors during the past sixteen years in Louisiana, Dr. Madeleine Duvic, MD, her doctor during the last several months in Houston, and to Elizabeth Sarabia-Cerda for her warmth and comfort to both Ellen and her family during the last two months.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass to be held in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 11:30 AM.
