Mrs Grace Farris

Grace Jo Schmidt Farris, a 51-year resident of Metairie, Louisiana, died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Farris was born in New Orleans, and grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was a member of the Hattiesburg High School class of 1955, and received her bachelors degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1959. She taught in both Orleans and Jefferson Parish schools for 47 years. Mrs. Farris is preceded in death by her mother, Grace K. Schmidt, her father, Robert E. Schmidt, and her husband of 44 years, R. Claude Farris. The eldest of three, Mrs. Farris is survived by her two sisters, Linda S. Baker (Al) of Hockley, Texas, and Trudy J. Schmidt of Metairie, Louisiana, as well as by her daughter, Abigayle C. Farris, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Relatives and friends of the family are welcome to attend a funeral service at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St.; on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am until service time. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery 4900 Airline Dr. Metairie, LA., In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Louisiana SPCA.
