He was preceded in death by his father, Yvon Lee Roby; mother, Irma Cerise Roby; sisters, Irma Lee Spears, Doris Ming, Carol Monson, Beverly Pratt; brother, Robert Roby; grandson, Scott Michael Roby.
Ivan joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and proudly served his county for over 40 years, participating in combat operations in WWII and serving as a Naval Reservist stationed at Algiers Naval Base. Nothing kept him from monthly drill- not even daughter Kathryn's wedding--SHE had to change the date!
He was self employed for several years at Eagle Battery before being called back into active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After returning he was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Algiers Locks, where he eventually retired as Lockmaster.
He enjoyed shrimping and fishing, tending to his vegetable garden and his many fruit trees...and how about his wine! Grape, orange, strawberry; you name it, he tried to make wine out of it. Sheds... you could never have too many sheds and don't think about moving any of the stuff in them. He always made sure no one wore their hat inside or at the table! His favorite desserts came from Ryan's buffet, yum!
Ask any of the grandkids about his beef jerky. They'll tell you it was the best. There's a certain place he kept it in the kitchen, and it was the first place they all went to when visiting Granny and Grandpa's house.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years. Kittie Glenn Roby; 3 children, Kathryn Roby Smith (Richard), Larry Lee Roby (Mary), Glenda Roby Wilson (Wesley); 5 grandchildren, Jonathan Mancuso (Tasha), Sean Roby, Eric Roby (fiancé Emily), Jennifer Wilson Fleming (Tony), Chad Wilson (Randi); 5 great grandchildren, Jayci Graves, Mackenzie Mancuso, Aidan Fleming, Mary Payton Fleming, Harper Layne Wilson; 3 sisters, Shirley Taliancich, Joyce LeBlanc, Susan Mire and many nieces and nephews.
