Lloyd Lester Sensat Jr.

Lloyd Lester Sensat, Jr., died February 18, 2011 after a very brief illness. Lloyd was born in Crowley, LA in 1944, the only child of the late Lloyd L. Sensat, Sr. and Marcella Stagg. He was educated in Crowley, received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette and a Master of Arts from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. Lloyd served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam Conflict. He began his career as an arts educator in the public schools of Acadia Parish. He joined the St. Charles Parish Public School System in 1973 where he taught until retirement in 1999. He touched the lives of hundreds of students during 26 years teaching at Hahnville High School, R. J. Vial Elementary School, A.A. Songy Elementary School, and Lakewood Junior High School. He also served as director of the St. Charles Parish Gifted and Talented Program. Lloyd was an active member of the Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association, Louisiana Landmarks Society, National Trust for Historic Preservation, National Arts Education Association and numerous other organizations dedicated to historic preservation and education. He received national awards from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and was a Walt Disney Art Educator.

Lloyd is survived by his mother, Marcella Stagg Sensat and his devoted partner, Eugene D. Cizek, Ph. D., FAIA.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church 400 N. Rampart St. New Orleans, LA on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm until time of services. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery, No. 1.
