

Louise Gares Blereau passed away peacefully at Ollie Steele Burden in Baton Rouge on Friday, May 31, 2013, at age 99. She was known by her family as "Ga", born in New Orleans, and lived there before moving to Metairie for 50 years. She is survived by her two daughters, Joyce B. Matherne of Baton Rouge and Elaine B. Smith (Ewell) of Kenner. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Lorraine Hebert (Cullen), John Scott Matherne (Rhonda), Joy Boyer (Joe), Dianne Johnson (Michael), Jerold Marc Matherne (Crystal) all of Baton Rouge, Ewell Michael Smith (Jenny) of Metairie, Dean Matthew Smith and Derek James Smith, both of Kenner. Ga has ten great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Victor William Blereau; parents, Rene and Clothilde Gares; sisters, Thelma Salassi and Irma Muller; and brother, Rene J. Gares, Jr. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 until Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Mausoleum.
