

William Andrew Gibson, Jr., 82, died peacefully on July 9, 2011. Born in Middletown, Ohio to the late William A. Gibson and Blanche Bevis, he graduated from Ohio State University (B.A., M.A., D.D.S.), Tufts University (M.D.S.) and Georgetown University (Ph.D). He served as assistant chief of experimental dentistry in the United States Air Force, chief of experimental pathology laboratory at the National Institute of Dental Research and National Institute of Health, dean of graduate studies and research at Baylor University Dental School, director of research at Louisiana State University Dental School, professor at University of New Orleans, and most recently as pathology department chair at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. “Bill”, as he was known to friends and family, will be remembered for his zest for life and his love of travel and good food. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Shirley Nodier; children: Wayne, Donna and David Gibson; stepchildren: Joseph, Wayne, Steven and Ronald Weicks; and grandchildren: Jennifer, Evelyn and Edward Gibson, and Lauren, Kelly, Angelle, Neil, Matthew, Sarah, Christian and Alexis Weicks. He was brother of the late Donald Gibson.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 10:00 Am. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.schoencanalstreet.com
