

Charles P. Santoro, 86, of New Rochelle, NY and Venice, FL, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at the Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, Florida. He was born December 7, 1926, in New Rochelle, NY, to Anthony and Marie Foglio Santoro and was educated in New Rochelle schools. He proudly and honorably served his beloved country in the United States Army during WW II while stationed in the Philippines.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Local 14-14B International Union of Operating Engineers. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He was an extremely talented artist, and his many, many paintings, drawings, and wood carvings are in the homes of his family and friends. He was an avid reader, favoring US history.
On September 28, 1947, he married Lillian Zimmerman in New Rochelle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Charles (Kathy) Santoro, Nancy (Patrick) Marciano, Richard (Mary Ann) Santoro, and Robert (Olga) Santoro, and his grandchildren Alaina (Casey) Donnellon, Nicholas Marciano, Steven Santoro, Katie Santoro, and Michael Santoro. He is also survived by his sister Joan Coviello, many nieces and nephews, and by many wonderful friends. His two brothers, Frank Santoro and Fred Santoro, predeceased him.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful medical staff at Venice Regional Medical Center, and the extraordinary medical staff and volunteers at Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota for their compassionate care.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Geo. T. Davis Funeral Home, LeCount Place, New Rochelle, NY. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 on Monday, February 18, 2013, at Holy Family Church, Mayflower Ave., New Rochelle, NY.
