

Carl was born on June 1, 1941, to Howard and Margaret Slater. He grew up in Colorado and attended Brush High School. After graduating, he went on to study at Harvard University, where he excelled academically, earned his MD and MEd, and developed a lifelong passion for medicine.
After completing his education, Carl pursued a career in the field of medicine. He dedicated many years of his life working as a professor at the University of Houston College of Medicine, where he inspired and mentored countless students.
When he retired, he continued with outdoor activities of hiking and bike riding. He had a passion for reading books and poetry and even took up crocheting. He accomplished some writing material, like poetry during his retirement and a textbook during his professorship.
Carl was a loving and proud father to his three children, Julie Flanagan, Saskia Burns, and David Slater. He was also a doting grandfather to six grandchildren:

He had been able to celebrate all of his grandchildren's birthdays as well as their high school and college graduations, either virtually or in person. He always did love to celebrate his children and grandchildren.
Carl will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and his work. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Service will be held in January 2026. In lieu of flowers and in his memory, take a hike, read some poetry and/or donate to your favorite charity in Carl's name.
