George McDowell

He was a member of Blairs Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he was youth leader for over 30 years with the original Blairs Creek Youth Singer; and a Deacon of the Church for years..

He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Juanita McDowell, brother-in-law Rev. Tony Baker, and nephew George Baker. He was an avid farmer and machinist. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great Paw-Paw, brother, uncle, and good friend.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 1/2 years Statia. His children Vicki and Barry Reed of Kershaw, SC., Jill and Mark Newsome of Seymour, TN., Clyde and Kelly McDowell of Tazewell, TN. Grandchildren, the prides of his life, Kacey Chumley and fiance Zach Erbaugh, Kelsey McDowell & (Nick Treece), Zach Chumley and fiance Lindsay Ramsey ,Allee McDowell, Ethan Newsome, and Josilyn McDowell. His pride and joy great grandson Zeplyn (Baby) Treece. His bonus grandchildren Brittany Poupard, Aaron Reed, Gracie Reed, Kaitlyn Gilliam, Gavin Gilliam, Bristol Stone and Lily Stone. Sister Glenna Baker. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Doris McDowell and Bill and Jane McDowell. Sister and brother Ebb and Lyllus DeBusk. And nieces and nephews Susan McDaniel, Doug Baker, Mary Ann McDowell, Julie and Ricky Roberts, Lori and Vincent Fiorentino, Eric and Melissa McDowell. As well as all the B & M Machine Shop crew, and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Blairs Creek Missionary Baptist Church fellowship hall building fund c/o George Debusk 880 Baldwin Rd Tazewell TN 37879.

The family will receive friends Friday July 22, 2022 from 5 until 7 PM at Coffey Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM in the Coffey Funeral Home chapel. A graveside service will be held Saturday July 23, 2022 at 11 AM in the Fairview Cemetery.
