Isaac Lee Oakes

Isaac Lee Oakes age 82 of Tazewell, TN was born November 1, 1930 and passed away August 20, 2013 at Tennova Hospital. He was preceded in death by his Dad, Charles Oakes; Mom, Lillie Oakes Duncan; granddaughter, Victoria S. Oakes; brother, Charles Evan Oakes. He retired from Military after 20 years as a SGT First Class in 1971, served in Vietnam in 1969-1970, received 3 Bronze Stars for his service in Vietnam. His services lead him throughout the world, living in Germany where he met his beloved wife Helene. He served in the Constabulary and was a Kentucky Colonel and Mason in lodge # 180. He was in 101st Airborne Division, 24th Constabulary Squad, 3rd Armored Calvary, 509th I.L.C., 3 rd Armored Division, Drill SGT., 24th Infantry Division, Instructor Ft. Knox, Ky, Vilseck 7th Army School, 5th S.P. Vietnam, Armored School Instructor. His services with the Constabulary presented him with the duties of guarding “Check Point Charlie” Berlin Wall. In 1958 in Germany, he served with Private Elvis Presley. He was his sons Boy Scout leader for years. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years: Helene W. Oakes Children: Charlie Oakes Katherine Oakes Cox and husband Mike Cox Jerry Oakes Bob Oakes and wife Vickie Michael Oakes Grandchildren: Adam cox, Brandon Poore (Meagan), Alison Cox, Hannah Oakes, Olivia Oakes, Nicole Oakes and Ben Oakes Great Grandchild: Cailyn Poore Sister: Shirley Duncan Keck (Gail) And a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 P.M. Friday August 23, 2013 at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell, TN with Masonic service and funeral service to follow at 700 P.M. Friday night in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in the Oakes Cemetery with full Military Honors at 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning. Ministers: Rev. Gordon Smith Pallbearers: Grandsons, Nephews and Sons-in-law: Adam Cox, Brandon Poore, Ben Oakes, Mike Cox, Benny Oakes, Dennis Oakes, Matthew Oakes Honorary Pallbearers: VFW Post # 8779 and Granddaughters Coffey Funeral Home in charge.

To the entire Oakes family, I am so sorry to hear about your dad. . Visiting Isaac and your mom whenever I came back to town was always the highlight of my visit. After my own dad passed away Isaac was like a father to me. I will truly miss him. God bless.
