Tammy Lavonne Pierson

Tammy Pierson passed in her sleep on August 23, 2026, at the age of 63. It was not the dramatic and impressive skydiving accident she’d have preferred, but it was peaceful, and for that we are grateful.

Tammy lived boldly, loved generously, and marched to the beat of her own drum, especially when no one else could hear the music. She was unfailingly kind and incapable of turning away a person or animal in need. If someone was in want of a home, a meal, or simply a person in their corner, Tammy was there whether she had it to spare or not. Her family was not defined by blood alone, it included anyone she chose to love, and she loved generously.

She is survived by her daughters, Shawna Massengill and Arielle Chevalier; her son-in-law Zachary Massengill; her grandsons Rolan and Simon Massengill; her brother Mike Butcher, and his wife Miranda; her sister-in-law Sharie; her dear friend, Larry Gulley; and more friends and family than there is space to name.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Edward Butcher, and her brothers, Lynn and Stanley Butcher.

In keeping with Tammy’s wishes, there will be no formal service. She never went to funerals and saw no reason to start now. Her ashes will be scattered in a place with open skies, restless waters, and as much laughter as we can muster. A date and location will be announced for all who wish to attend.

Those wishing to help her family honor her final wishes may contribute to the GoFundMe established for her expenses. Those who cannot donate are encouraged to remember Tammy by helping someone they can’t afford to help, taking in an animal they absolutely do not have space for, or telling a wildly inappropriate story at exactly the wrong moment.
