Thomas Dewey Brooks

Dewey was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His greatest joy was spending time with the people he loved. He will always be remembered for his stories, his sense of humor, and the many cherished memories he created with his family.

Dewey was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent much of his career as a furniture upholsterer in a factory. He took great pride in his work, bringing skill, patience, and craftsmanship to everything he did. His strong work ethic and determination were a reflection of the kind of man he was—dependable, humble, and committed to providing for the people he loved.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, and hunting. Whether sitting around a campfire, spending time in the woods, or patiently waiting for the next big catch, he was happiest outdoors and surrounded by those he loved. Many of his fondest memories were made outside, sharing these passions and experiences with family and friends.

Dewey was also a devoted and selfless caregiver. For many years, he lovingly cared for his mother and his brother, putting their needs before his own and making sure they were cared for with dignity, patience, and compassion. He also played an important role in raising his nephew, helping guide and care for him throughout his childhood. The bond they shared was one built on love, trust, and countless memories. Dewey never sought recognition for all that he did; caring for the people he loved was simply who he was. His willingness to give his time, strength, and heart was a true reflection of his generous spirit and the deep love he had for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Brooks and Emma Lillian Sproles Brooks; brothers, Richard Brooks and Jerry Brooks; sisters, Marjorie Kimbrough and Christine Harness; his son, Reece Brooks; and his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Carol Brooks.

Dewey is survived by his daughter, Gina Goldsmith Comstock; his sister, Thelma Bright (Al); Maxine Gray; granddaughter, Angela Brooks Saunders; grandson, Bobby Brooks; great-grandchildren, Caylem Brooks, Candace Brooks, Riley Edwards, and Devin Saunders; nephew, Richard Brooks (Tina); as well as several more nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM followed by burial in the Burch Cemetery in New Tazewell.
