Vergie Cecil Stickle

Vergie Cecil (Pressnell) Stickle passed away on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 in Tazewell, TN after a brief illness. Cecil was born on August 6, 1930 to Shade and Dollie (Poore) Pressnell in Tazewell, TN. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee (BS, Zoology, 1954) and worked as a certified medical technologist (MT, American Society of Clinical Pathology), and maintained her MT certification for more than 50 years. She married Gene Paul Stickle on April 11, 1954, and was married for more than 61 years until Gene’s death in 2015. She spent most of her adult life living in New Jersey, raising two sons (William Finley Stickle; Douglas Franklin Stickle), and was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg, NJ. She is survived by her sons, two grandsons (Matthew Paul Stickle; Tristan Hughes Stickle), one sister (Joyce (Pressnell) Watson), and a large number of loving nieces and nephews and their families. Cecil was buried alongside Gene in a family cemetery in Tazewell on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Her burial was a grand remembrance and celebration of life. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her. The legacy of Gene and Cecil includes 12 yearly grants-in-aid to students at the University of Tennessee and Pennsylvania State University.
