Adam David Soutar

Adam David Soutar passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, and in the compassionate care of medical staff, at the New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City on Saturday, July 25th, 2026.

Beloved husband of John David Rigsby; cherished son of the late Ian Alexander Soutar and of Helgi Soutar (née Ulk); dearest brother of James Soutar and Annabel Soutar; precious nephew of Silvi Anvelt (née Ulk), and of the late David Keith Soutar and the late Marion Soutar (née Baldwin); dearly loved cousin of William Soutar, D’Arcy Henderson, and Ann Soutar; treasured brother-in-law of Abby Lai Soutar, Alex Ivanovici, Joshua Rigsby, Jennifer Reid (née Rigsby) and Brittany Tiller; cherished son-in-law of the late David Rigsby, of Vicki Rigsby, and of Walter Insley; adored Uncle Adie of Ella Ivanovici, Beatrice Ivanovici, Alistair Soutar, Augustine Soutar, David Reid, Kevin Reid, Liam Reid, Mason Reid, Maeve Rigsby and Bella Tiller. Adam will also be fondly remembered by dear relatives Diane Zeidwig and Terri Armao.

Adam considered his many friends in Canada, the US, Switzerland, Holland, the UK and Asia as his second family, and he leaves a legacy of deep and eclectic friendships all over the world that reflect his bon vivant spirit and his extraordinary generosity.

Born in Montreal on May 21, 1968, Adam attended Selwyn House School in Westmount, Stowe School in the UK, and McGill University where he obtained his BA in History. His year abroad at UCF in the South of France generated some of his most cherished adult friendships. Adam spent his childhood summers and winter weekends at Brome Lake in Quebec’s Eastern Townships skiing, lifeguarding, playing tennis and cards, consuming choice junk food, pushing underdog canoes to Regatta victory, and chauffeuring his friends from the Brome Lake Boating Club around back country roads in the legendary ‘Urban Suburban’.

Adam’s early career in the investment business brought him to Hong Kong and eventually to New York City which he has called home since 1992. In 1997 he co-founded Post Millennium, an award-winning boutique post-production studio, where he worked as Executive Producer for 20 years. More recently Adam pursued his passion for aviation and travel by working for Air France and Alaska Airlines, and by becoming one of the world’s most sophisticated and successful elite status airmiles collectors and distributors.

Adam’s roaming nature and deep commitment to his friendships brought him to many far-flung lands. He was a talented ‘controlled out-of-control’ downhill skier whose favourite mountain resort, Zermatt, was also the site of Adam’s carefully plotted marriage proposal to his beloved Johnny. Wherever he went Adam generated fun, adventure and genuine conversations. For two decades he generously hosted his many international friends when they passed through New York.

Adam had a knack for always being at the epicenter of historic world events - in Berlin in 1989, Hong Kong in 1997, TriBeCa on Sept 11, 2001. His lived knowledge of geopolitics made him a unique, funny, and captivating storyteller.

Adam loved his many labrador dogs over the years and he will be deeply missed by his most recent and beloved Margot.

Adam’s superpower was always being alert and attentive to the person in the room who most needed a morale boost. In lieu of flowers, his family invites those who want to honour Adam’s legacy to give their time generously to family members and friends who may be silently suffering from mental health or addiction challenges.
