Alberto had been cutting my hair since I moved to New York City in 2003 when a friend with beautiful hair recommended him to me. Since we were the same age (born in 1942), I expected him to be my hairdresser forever. I always enjoyed his sparkling conversation and his delight in his profession. His death is a great loss to me and I can only imagine the devastating impact on your family. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

To the family of Alberto Roturra,
I read today's NY Times obituary with great sadness, and want to tell Alberto's family that I will sorely miss him. In 1978, when Alberto and I (the same age) both had full heads of black hair, his colleague, Armando, cut my shaggy long hair into a shoulder length style. When Armando retired, Alberto cut my hair, and gradually his turned to grey, while mine is still black. As we both aged, he insisted that older women look better with short hair. He was right. He was a pro, one of a kind, immensely skilled, unpretentious, applying his skills to to the rich and famous as well as ordinary New Yorkers like myself, my husband, and a few friends. I am sad that we will no longer grow old together.
