The cause was glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer that Alvin valiantly fought for two years.
Alvin was born on May 6, 1951 to Liberato and Esther Ferrer in the beach-side municipality of Lingayen, known as “the heart, the soul, and the face” of Pangasinan Province of the Philippines.
As a young man, Alvin dreamed of one day living in the United States of America. After graduating from San Beda College in Manila, he fulfilled his dream, making New York his home. There he met and married the love of his life, Milagros. Together they lovingly raised two children, Jon and Julie.
A patriarch and a provider who placed the highest value on family, Alvin beamed with pride at each milestone in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He took great care of his home and his family with his hard work ethic and still found time to enjoy life to the fullest. He was a talented musician and a passionate traveler, who once performed at Carnegie Hall with his singing group and visited over 25 countries with Milagros.
Friends and family knew that Alvin’s language of love was through food. He was a wonderful entertainer, who poured his heart into every meal he cooked, glass of wine he served and story he shared with his guests.
He is survived by his mother, Esther; his wife, Milagros; his children and their spouses/partners, son, Jon and Jennifer, and Julie and Steven; his sisters Belinda, Cynthia, Dhiya, and Emily; and his grandchildren, Evan, Mila, and August.
He is preceded in death by his father, Liberato Ferrer.
A viewing for Alvin’s family and friends will be held at Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home, 352 E 87th St, NY, NY 10028, on Saturday, June 26th, from 6-9pm EST, with a brief memorial service starting at 7:25 pm EST. Loved ones from far away can also join via Zoom.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to God’s Love We Deliver in Alvin’s honor.
