

Anita Marie Edwards, 82, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 26th in New York City.
Born on July 23, 1943, in Warren, Ohio, Anita was the eldest daughter of Marcus Sumpter Edwards and Mary Agnes Preston Edwards. Throughout her life, she embraced this role with remarkable strength, intelligence, and quiet authority. Anita maintained a lifelong bond with her sisters, Carol Marcia Edwards and Dr. Phyllis Ann Edwards, sharing cherished moments during family vacations and holidays together.
Anita graduated from Warren G. Harding High School and continued her studies at The Ohio State University, where she earned her degree in Education in 1965. After graduation, she boldly relocated to New York City, which soon became her home and playground. Her passion for language, literature, and history was evident in the way she approached life—always curious, articulate, and thoughtful.
Guided by creativity, intellect, and impeccable taste, Anita excelled in both interior design and the advertising industry. She was an avid reader, a collector of hats, and immersed herself in fashion, music, art, and history, reflecting her multifaceted character.
Above all, Anita treasured her family. She was a devoted grandmother to her granddaughter Phoebe, whom she adored. Anita was “Mom” to Brooke, “Nanny” to Phoebe, a cherished sister to Phyllis and Carol, and a loyal friend whose presence enriched the lives of many.
Anita’s legacy is one defined by style, intellect, warmth, and fierce love. She leaves behind a family who adored her and a community of friends and acquaintances who feel her loss deeply.
