
Anne Gawkins, was born in Utica, N.Y., to William Francis and Anne (Horrigan) Gawkins on November 13, 1940. She spent her formative years in Boston, MA and Holland Patent, NY, graduating from Holland Patent Central School in 1958. In 1962, Anne graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Nazareth College. Upon graduation, Anne pursued a life-long career in education that began as a teacher in New York City, then Project Director, City Tech Tech-Prep Consortium, New York City Technical College, and culminating as an Administrator at the New York Technical College, CUNY, where she secured a U.S. Department of Education FIPSE grant. Anne, was an independent and active individual, and proud New Yorker. A frequent traveler, she greatly appreciated experiencing other cultures. She was proud of her Irish heritage and particularly enjoyed visiting the west of Ireland. An animal lover, Anne owned a number of dog and cats throughout her life, with her recent companion, a standard poodle named Bridie, certainly a favorite. Anne supported the Central Park Conservancy, especially the park’s east side which she visited daily. A huge sports fan, Anne followed a number of NY teams and Notre Dame football; yet, her true passion remained the New York Mets.
Anne was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Dr. Michael W. Gawkins; and close friends, Victor and Jacqui Mitchell. Anne is survived by her sister-in-law, Frances A. Gawkins of Richmond, VA; cousin, Thomas M. Horrigan, and his wife Susan of St. Petersburg, FL. Surviving nephews and niece include: Colonel (U.S. Army Retired) Patrick M. Gawkins and his wife, Diane of Haymarket, Va.; Colonel (U.S. Army Retired) Michael J. Gawkins and his wife, Jo-Ann of Wilmington, NC; William Francis Gawkins and his wife, Joan of Jacksonville, FL. Anne is survived by close friend Patricia Parzych and Dr. Jeffrey Matos, New York, NY, her cardiologist and close friend, both of New York, NY.
