
Dr. Arthur E. Lindner was born in Schenectady, NY, in 1928. His family moved to Collingswood, NJ, where he spent much of his childhood. He passed away on Wednesday, July 15th, at Kensington Senior Living in White Plains, NY.
Arthur received his baccalaureate at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. He received a medical degree from the University of Rochester in 1954. Following an internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, he served two years in the U.S. Army. He was in Korea for year one and Fort Dix, NJ, for year two.
After the army, Arthur moved to New York City. Arthur then entered subspecialty training in Gastroenterology at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital. Arthur then had his own private practice at NYU Medical Center as an internist and a gastroenterologist. He also joined the faculty of New York University School of Medicine and remained there throughout his career. Besides serving as the Dean of Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Medicine at NYU, he also served as editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology. He received awards for outstanding service from the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians. He co-wrote several books, including “Radiology of the Small Intestine”, “Radiology of the Colon” and “Radiology of the Stomach”.
His travels have included Russia, Europe, South America, Canada and various places in the US. Once he retired, he enjoyed taking classes at NYU's postgraduate school in literature and history. He attended theatre, concerts, movies and museums regularly. He enjoyed seeing friends and family. Arthur was the son of George and Anne Lindner and brother to Lucille Rosengarten. While he was never married and had no children, he was a wonderful uncle to his two nieces. He was also very supportive of his great nieces and his great nephew.
The funeral is on July 19, 2026, at 1 pm at Mount Eden Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. A memorial donation can be made to NYU Langone Health at [email protected]
