

Barbara Ann Magoolaghan (nee O’Shea) of New York, New York and Rockaway Beach, New York, died at home on Monday, November 6, 2023. She was 70 years old. Barbara was born in New York, New York to Mary (nee Kelly) and John O’Shea on October 4, 1953. She grew up in Yorkville, on the Upper East Side, and later raised her family in Island Park, New York.
Barbara, who graduated from St. Jean Baptiste High School in 1972, worked for the NFL before starting her family. For decades she administered her husband Robert’s licensed electrical contracting business and, later in her professional life, was also employed by Catholic Charities as a senior services center manager in Oceanside and Island Park, New York. Despite a lung cancer diagnosis in 2019, she bravely worked throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that senior citizens received vital services.
Barbara loved her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed a glass of cabernet with plenty of ice. Her home cooking was an essential ingredient in her family’s life, and her many recipes will live on. Her impeccable fingernails, which she mostly maintained herself, made her the envy of many women.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Francis. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert Magoolaghan, her sons Brian (Lyle Kenny) and Shea Magoolaghan (Anne), daughter, Denise Casey (Derek) and their families. She is also survived by her siblings Laraine Frem (Tom) and Deborah (Tommy Reilly) and Timothy O’Shea (Sandy), in addition to numerous extended family members and friends.
Barbara wished to simply be cremated. In accordance with her wishes, her family will host a celebration of her life that will occur in 2024.
