Barbara Radlauer, aged 90, passed away peacefully at home in New York City after a long and loving life. She is survived by her son Michael (Susan), cousin Steven, and predeceased by her husband Bernard, brother Walter, and parents Pauline and Harry.
Barbara Rubin was born in the Bronx and graduated from New York University in 1956 with a business degree. While she was in college, she met her soulmate Bernard (aka Bernie, aka Bunny) via mutual family connections. They married in June 1956 and settled in Forest Hills, NY where Michael was born. Barbara and Bernie moved to Old Bridge, NJ in 1967. Barbara had a fulfilling and joyful life as a housewife, raising her son and enjoying the suburban lifestyle with her husband.
Upon the tragic death of Bernard, Barbara, then 41, entered the working world. She was an employment counselor at Career Blazers, placing people in secretarial and clerical positions. In 1992 she moved to the Upper East Side of Manhattan where she had a much easier work commute and could enjoy being in the middle of the thriving city. Relocating to the city also enabled her to oversee her mother’s care. After a long and successful run, Barbara retired at the age of 74.
After retiring, Barbara was able spend more time enjoying simple pleasures—clothing shopping which she thought of as therapy, playing mah-jongg and Rummikub, and most of all sharing good times with beloved friends and family.
Barbara was a sweet soul who radiated beauty, both inside and out. She will never be forgotten by those fortunate enough to have known and loved her. In lieu of flowers, direct donations to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
