A caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Betsy’s life was marked by curiosity and a deep love for the city she called home. Raised in Woodmere and Scarsdale, New York, she attended Goucher College before returning to New York City, where she made her home since 1969.
Betsy delighted in exploring the city’s endless vitality — from its restaurants and nightclubs in her younger years to the colorful characters that made New York so unique. The 79th Street Boat Basin was one of her favorite places; she spent countless summer afternoons there, finding a vacation within the city she adored.
In her early years, Betsy developed a passion for photography, often spending hours in her darkroom creating her own black-and-white prints. Her candid family portraits captured the spirit of a generation and continue to bring joy to those who cherish them.
She is survived by her daughters Susan Hutman and Debbie Meisenzahl, her grandchildren Zachary Arndt and Anna Meisenzahl, her identical twin sister Nancy Oettinger, and her son-in-law Bill Meisenzahl.
A gathering of friends and loved ones will be held on Tuesday, October 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home. Private services and interment will follow at Salem Fields Cemetery.
Betsy’s creativity, wit, and enduring love for New York and her family will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
