Brenda Horowitz, 94, passed away Friday July 3, 2026. She was predeceased by her husband Paul. She is survived by her children Diana, Michael, and Carl and grandchildren Julia Conrad and Alex MacIntyre.
She loved her family, her husband of 65 years, being honest at all costs, and the thrill of a good bargain.
A painter and a lifelong New Yorker, Brenda grew up in Washington Heights and moved into the WestBeth Artists Housing on the lower West Side when it opened in 1970. She lived there for over fifty years, painting and raising her family. Beginning in the early 1950s she spent nearly every summer in Provincetown MA, in the artistic community there.
Brenda studied painting first at New York’s High School of Music & Art, where she met the love of her life, Paul Horowitz, at sixteen. Later she studied at Cooper Union, City College, and in classes with Hans Hofmann. She exhibited her work in galleries in both in New York City and Provincetown.
Her work evolved over a lifetime dedicated to painting but her focus was on large, vividly colorful landscapes, bridging figurative and abstract. Brenda Horowitz’s paintings are in corporate and museum collections, including the Provincetown Arts Association & Museum, where in 2023 she was honored for artistic excellence. For the past 35 years she was represented by Berta Walker Gallery in Provincetown.
Services will be at Riverside Chapel 11:30am on Monday July 6.
Interment to follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Fairview, New Jersey.
