Carmen Curet, also known as Samani, one of God’s most cherished angels, was born on September 14, 1957, in Queens, New York. She was the fifth of six siblings—Angel, Janet, Peter, Gladys, and Raphael—born to Angel and Carmen Curet. Raised in the Amsterdam Houses on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Samani grew up in a vibrant, multicultural community, rooted in love, resilience, and unity.
Her educational journey began at Public School 191 and continued through St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School, Fashion High School, and later, Mercy College and Paul Quinn College.
A woman of deep strength and grace, Carmen dedicated her career to St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital, all while navigating life’s challenges with quiet perseverance—including a courageous battle with cancer in the mid-1990s. Even as she cared for others professionally, her heart never strayed from her true calling: her family.
Her greatest joy came from her role as a mother and grandmother. She lovingly raised her two daughters, Sue and Tracy, and embraced the role of a mother to many others whose lives she touched with warmth, guidance, and unconditional care. Her love knew no bounds.
To her grandchildren—Jaden, Cairo and Qion—she was more than a grandmother; she was a guiding light, a source of unwavering love, and a home for their hearts. Her devotion to them was endless, and their love for her will echo across time.
On the morning of May 12, 2025, Carmen was called home to God, surrounded by those who loved her most. Her spirit, her laughter, and her wisdom live on in the family she so fiercely loved and in every life and heart she touched.
In her own words: “Always let God carry you, for He is the way.”
