I was truly sad to hear of Charlie's passing. He was a wonderful man with dignity and warmth who was a true patron of the arts and artists. The gift that I received from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation changed my life--and I owe this to Charlie. I will always think of him with affection. My very sincere condolences to Stuart and the rest of the family.

An iconic figure in the art foundation universe, we at the Harpo Foundation were fortunate to learn from Charlie and will miss his grace, humor and presence.

Charlie will be greatly missed by the Harpo Foundation board of directors for his wise counsel, commitment to artists and not least his mischievous humor.

I miss you, my dear Uncle Charlie. You were there, when there was much to laugh about; but you also stood by my side in hard times. I will never forget you. RIP.

I will miss Charlie. He was a dear friend and an inspiration. He leaves behind a vast legacy that will live on powerfully and meaningfully. He made so many individuals happier and wiser and so many institutions stronger and better. I will forever feel blessed for the time I shared with Charlie, who genuinely expressed his joy in life and was always at the ready to help others do the same.

We will miss our wonderful neighbor.  Charlie was a supremely elegant presence in our building. Charming , wise, and a great story teller.

The Aspen Institute Artist-Endowed Foundations Initiative/AEFI mourns the loss of its Honorary Chair of Advisors, Charles C. Bergman (1933-2018). Charlie's intrepid advocacy for support to individual artists, as Chairman and CEO of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, inspired the Aspen Institute National Study of Artist-Endowed Foundations and its mission to educate about artists' philanthropy. His generous spirit and wise guidance will be missed by his many friends and colleagues in the artist-endowed foundation field who are inspired by his example.
