Dane Charles Frazier was born on Saturday, December 2, 1961, in Queens, New York to Bonita and James Frazier. Dane was the oldest, with two younger sisters, Ingra and Darlene Frazier. Dane loved his sisters dearly and at an early age, looked after and cared for them.
Dane graduated from Beach Channel High School and later from St. John’s University, with a degree in Finance. He was one of the ten founders of the Mu Pi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. He loved and competitively excelled in all sports, especially the game of basketball.
In 1988, Dane met Marcia Thomas while attending The Brooklyn Tabernacle and they married in May 1990. He adopted Michael Thomas (1983), Marcia’s seven-year-old son, giving him the name Michael Frazier. Dane and Marcia also had three children, Aaron (1991), LeiAnna (1993) and Sara (1995). During this time, Dane served as a youth leader building up and spiritually encouraging many adolescents through a sports program he pioneered called H.E.A.T. (Healthy Environment for Active Teens). Although the marriage only lasted twelve years, Dane and Marcia worked through many differences to stay faithful to their convictions and remain constant in the lives of their children.
Dane began attending Times Square Church in 2001, where he became very involved in ministry through singing in the choir, helping others and participating on missionary trips abroad. Although attending different churches, Dane never missed an opportunity to show up and support the children in any event whether at school or church, even some times on very short notice. He supported and encouraged them in all their endeavors.
Dane was blessed knowing his children loved the Lord and the things of God deeply. They all have used their gifts and talents their whole lives to serve the Lord in the church, as well as on several missionary trips abroad (just like their father). Michael, Aaron, LeiAnna and Sara have been honor students and/or valedictorians throughout their school careers, to the present day. Dane was extremely proud of them!
Dane was also a loving uncle to his nephews and nieces, who all have fond memories of “Uncle Dane.” He taught all of his nephews the game of basketball, which they play very well. They each have fond memories of “Uncle Dane” taking them to the park and other outdoor activities.
Dane suffered a major heart attack in March 2011. The doctors’ reports said he would never work or play sports again. Dane’s faith along with the many prayers of his children and others strengthened him. He was able to work and perform very minimal athletic activities throughout 2012. Dane had prayed for a miracle and received it.
On Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 3:25pm, Dane suffered a fatal heart attack immediately after playing four games straight in a paddleball tournament. He was instantly ushered into God’s presence, where ALL is well! No more struggles, pain or sorrow, he received his healing and IT IS WELL!
Dane is survived by his children and their mom: Michael, Aaron, LeiAnna, Sara and Marcia Frazier; Daughter-in-law and grandson: Nataliya Zaytseva and Dexter David Frazier; Mother: Bonita Frazier; Sisters: Ingra and Darlene Frazier; Grandmother: Gladys Esposito; Uncle: Chacon Esposito; Aunt: Crystal Williams; Nephews: Keon and Khiri DelaCruz, Daniel Thomas, Joseph Smith, Kitaka Hypolite; Nieces: Jalena and Jada DelaCruz, Candace Brathwaite and her children Daiquan and twins Zekyra and Zaire, LaKeisha Thomas and son Khalil and Makeda Thomas; Sisters-in-law; Marcelle Thomas, Marcelline Hypolite; Brother-in-laws: Dexter Thomas and Patrick Hypolite, along with many cousins, relatives and friends.
