I am so shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of Ellen.  Ellen was such a force-she lit up every room she  was in, brought such energy, and presence to everyone conversation.  She was a strong, visible, wonderful leader who really cared about her teams, and others and brought tremendous respect, brilliant and practical problem solving to every challenge.  Her trust in me to work with her teams  over the years was always a great honor, and made me stand up taller.  I am sorry I am  unable to be there in person today to honor her-but please know I will always remember Ellen with great affection and appreciation.   Deepest condolences to the family and her wife circle of friends.

Ellen was a mentor to me and was responsible for the advancement of my long career at Good Housekeeping Magazine.  I am sad that I am unable to say goodbye in person to this admirable individual.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Ellen.
 
Ellen was such an amazing woman, a great talent and creative force. I am so thankful for all the things she taught me during my 17 years at Hearst Publishing. Ellen was a true mentor to me and I will never forget her. She represented all the things that were possible for a woman to achieve in the early 2000’s and beyond. I have many fond memories of our time together. As the Creative Director at Redbook and later Cosmopolitan Magazines, I was often at her door, Anne giving updates on her mood that day ( almost always bright and cheerful ). She constantly kind, thoughtful and focused with her feedback when I presented covers. I am especially grateful for the many hours we shared when launching HGTV magazine. For more than a year, we met daily in her office with the south west sun streaming in, sitting on her floor, looking at endless layouts, discussing fonts, pagination, visuals, content and always “the reader”. She had this beautiful collection of tapestry trimming that she kept on her table in a box. Our conversations often shifted personal and she was always sharing tidbits of her family life, she clearly was devoted and very proud of all of you. We shared a love of quirky fashion, fun accessories, patterns and subtle menswear touches. Ellen had this amazing necklace that looked like a tie, made out of pearls. I loved her style, sassy and authentic. Ellen was my super hero and my inspiration. Over the years she always encouraged me to push the envelope, to think out of the box. She was a beautiful person inside and out, often sharing words of wisdom or a perspective I never thought of. I was a very small person in Ellen’s universe but her light shines on and I will forever be grateful for the impact she has had on my life. Best Regards,Tracy Everding.
