

Dr Estelle K Meislich, age 97, passed away peacefully at home in Fort Lee, NJ, on February, 27, 2025 after a loving, fulfilling life. She is survived by her three daughters, Mindy (Jay) Horrow, Debrah (Michael) Zuckerman, and Susan (Michael) Radlauer; five grandchildren, Ellen (Samuel) Wald, Aviva (Jonathan) Reinfeld, Benjamin (Hannah Silver) Horrow, Hannah (Roland) Carvalho, and Elsa Zuckerman; and five great-grandchildren, Mikayla Reinfeld, Zev Reinfeld, Isaac Wald, Spencer Haley Horrow, and Stella Carvalho.
Estelle Kalechstein was born in Brooklyn, NY, and graduated from Brooklyn College at age 20 with a degree in Chemistry. She met her soulmate Herbert Meislich at Columbia University while they both pursued and obtained doctorates in Chemistry. Upon graduation, Estelle became Professor of Chemistry first at City College of New York then at Bergen Community College in New Jersey. Herbert and Estelle raised their family in New Milford, NJ.
Upon retiring from teaching, Dr Meislich continued to lecture and teach for Elder Hostels, now known as Road Scholars, and IND, a local adult education consortium. Her wonder and awe of the world that science revealed kept her reading and teaching on wide-ranging subjects, such as the origin of life, matter, time, salt, oxygen, water, and the periodic table of the elements.
She loved art, theatre, opera, and chamber music, and imparted her love of the arts and science to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, direct donations to the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel.
