

It was June 1938 when the Holland America Line’s ship Veendam sailed into Hoboken, NJ. Among the passengers fleeing Germany was Eve Stein. Eve was born in Beckum, Westphalia the daughter of Albert and Martha Stein. Her journey continued in New York City where she attended public schools. She and her mother moved to rural Pennsylvania and upon completion of high school Eve matriculated at Pennsylvania State University. There she majored in foreign languages. During her senior year she was inducted into Iota Sigma Phi an honorary language society.
Upon graduation Eve returned to New York City where she was employed in the travel industry. She later worked for the New York City Housing Authority. During her retirement years Eve was a fervent advocate for animal rights volunteering hours at a shelter, not only fostering dogs but also personally adopting them. Eve is survived by her cousins Ruth Heisman, Harriet Anne Kelly and Ruth Paz. In response to the Corona virus services will be held privately.
