MACEACHRON -- Frederick Grant. Mr. MacEachron, of New York City, died peacefully on December 21, 2022. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on July 4, 1940 to F. Grant MacEachron and Jean VanDam MacEachron.
Fred graduated from Michigan State University. After serving two years in the army as a Second Lieutenant, he earned his MBA from Northwestern University and CPA while working for Arthur Andersen in Chicago. Fred moved to New York in 1970. After working in various capacities for Lehman Brothers and Salomon Brothers, he joined Merrill Lynch in 1980. Six years ago his team merged with “The Izzo Group” where his title was Senior Vice President-Wealth Management Advisor. He has made many wonderful friendships at Merrill Lynch and found the best part of the job to be working with his clients.
Fred loved The University Club of New York and became a 50 Year Life Member this year. Another organization he belonged to was the St. Andrew’s Society where he became Chairman of the Board. He was also an active member of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church serving on the session many times and also serving as trustee.
Fred will be remembered for his love of golf joining the National Golf Links of America in Southampton the summer of 1993. He has played on many different golf courses, Pebble Beach, Seminole, fourteen courses in Scotland in eight days, but National was his favorite. Another sport Fred loved was skiing. He skied in areas all over the world including heli-skiing in British Columbia. He was a zealous sports fan and never wavered in his support of his beloved Michigan State Spartans where he had played varsity football and ran track.
Fred was generous with his time and talents. He was loyal and had a strong moral and ethical compass which was evident both in his deeds and his words. Fred was outgoing and humble but with a quiet confidence that people naturally liked and felt comfortable with.
He is predeceased by his parents, beloved wife Allison Bailey MacEachron and niece Tricia Cox. Fred is survived by two sisters, Jane (James) McCandless, and their children Jill (Jody) Taube and Scott McCandless and sister Patricia (Daniel) Cox, and their daughter Jennifer (Michael) Fernandez as well as his special companion Louise Clare, many extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on January 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, 921 Madison Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10021. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.
