August 1, 1946 – September 4, 2021
Fredricka Greis passed away peacefully September 4, 2021 after a long illness and surrounded by family. She was born in Trinidad (then British West Indies) and raised in Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island. After graduating from St Joseph’s Grammar School and Connetquot High School, she became a proud New York City resident for over 50 years. When it came to her career, she could easily be described as an adventurous renaissance woman. She spent over ten years as a Reservations and Ticket Sales Agent for Air Canada, indulging in her love of travel. She went on to work in various fields including retail at Banana Republic and for a bridal headwear designer, the US Census Bureau, and Wet Technologies, her brother’s engineering firm, where one of her favourite projects was demonstrating – with great flair - the high spec equipment at industry trade shows.
In her early NYC period, her love of theater led her to become part of an avant-garde performance art group in shows off Broadway and exhibitions at the World Trade Center. Her deep and abiding interest in all things health related culminated in her becoming a certified Feldenkrais practitioner, using body-movement techniques for health and well-being. She also met a long-held goal in 2010 by earning an Associate Degree with Honors at Borough of Manhattan Community College, focusing on literature and French.
Fredricka was glamorous, intelligent and deeply spiritual, with an ever-present positive attitude, especially in the face of health battles. Throughout her life she brought a sense of joy to everything she did at work, in gatherings with family and friends, and definitely when disco dancing.
She is survived by sisters Patricia and Susan, brother Fred and sister-in-law Karen, nephew Christopher and niece-in-law Laura, niece Heather and partner Luc, great nephews Dillon, Kyle and Max and great niece Lilyana.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Fredricka at 4pm Wednesday, September 22nd at Saint Joseph’s Church, 404 East 87th Street, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations to FDNY 343 Ride https://www.fdny343ride.com are suggested.
