George was born on 09/11/1935 in Kosice, Czechoslovakia
George is survived by his loved wife Dawn Desiderio Silvay MD, devoted daughter Samantha
Silvay, son-in-law Raul Jauregui-Volpe, son Robert Silvay, daughter-in-law Keevie Silvay, and
granddaughters Elizabeth and Katie.
George was predeceased by father Koloman Silvay, mother Jolana Silvayova, and sister Katka
Silvay
George was a Professor of Anesthesiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City for
50 years. He graduated medical school from the Comenius University in Bratislava, CZ in 1960
and received his PhD in 1966 of which he was immensely proud of his entire life. He received
his Diplomate Boards of Cardiac Surgery in 1965. George came to New York and completed
his residency in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology in 1972 at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New
York. George’s medical accomplishments were numerous; however, he was particularly proud
of his development and organization of The Update in Anesthesiology Annual Symposium
which has drawn anesthesiologist from all around the world together since 1981 and is still
being held to this day. George published over 100 medical articles and book chapters. He
educated and influenced hundreds of anesthesiologists throughout his career, leaving a lasting
impact on the field.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and love of family, George had a passion for life
including tennis and blackjack in which he won an international tournament in 2005.
George will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
