Gigie Metayer

It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Gigie (Gigi) Metayer, a resident of Manhattan, NY. She passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, February 9, 2024, at the age of 80. Her life was well-lived and she will be dearly missed.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Born on December 15th, 1943 in Anse Rouge, Haiti, she passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. Her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her loved ones and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was a loving mother to Florida Edouard, Jasnite Edouard, Mesmin Lecoin and wife Martine Albama, and Ronique Metayer. Her grandchildren, Noema, Christopher, Gaelle, and Senayah, were truly cherished by her. She will be deeply missed by her wide circle of family and friends.

We take solace in knowing that she is now reunited with her daughter Guerda Lecoin and her parents. We ask that you keep her family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

The children of Gigie would like to extend their profound gratitude to the following families: Metayer, Edouard, Lecoin, Albama, Thelusmond, Brutus, Jean, Thomas, Blaise, Innocent, Auguste, Dallien, Tema, Rouza. Furthermore, they express their heartfelt appreciation to all those who have chosen to be present with them during this somber moment in their lives.

Maya Angelou once said, "A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." The ability to bring people together is a true testament to the impact of a selfless woman, even in her death. We honor and celebrate the life of our beloved mother who embodied these qualities.

A visitation service has been scheduled for Friday, February 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Riverside Memorial Chapel. The service will commence at noon, followed by a reception, as we honor and celebrate the life of our dear mother. Join us as we pay our respects and celebrate a life well lived.
