Born on December 30, 1941, in Seoul, Korea, Grace was the devoted daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Young Jay Kim. Grace earned her M.D. from EWHA University in 1966, then immigrated to the U.S. where she trained in Psychiatry and Pathology before discovering her true passion for Family Medicine. She became a General Practitioner and started her private practice in Andover in 1980. Among the thousands of patients in her practice, she was most proud of the families who entrusted her with multiple generations “from newborn baby to great-grandparents”, she loved to say. During her 40 years of practicing medicine, Grace encountered an increasing number of complex and chronic illnesses each year. Fortunately, her ability to integrate Eastern healing modalities with her allopathic medical knowledge allowed her to develop a unique approach to delivering care to her patients. She truly believed in the power of strong social connection, exercise, interaction with nature, spirituality and good food as Medicine.
Grace was more than a physician; she was a Renaissance woman. Her love of travel motivated her to travel all over the world to discover foreign art and cultures. Her love of music led her to join singing groups, frequent classical and jazz performances, and practice piano as often as she could. Her love of golf inspired her to live on the golf course so that she could play frequently and have a direct view of the fairway. But most of all, she loved people. Colleagues, patients, and even strangers found themselves invited to her house for impromptu meals or grand parties next to her close friends and family members. An intuitive and self-taught cook, she was always able to whip up a delicious meal for anyone who was hungry. People near and far knew that if anyone ever needed help, whether it was a ride, a loan, a place to stay or a shoulder to lean on, they could always count on Grace.
She is survived by her beloved children, Helena (spouse - Eliot) and John (spouse - Olivia), and her precious grandchildren, Isabelle and Henry Choy, and Madeline and Amelia Kim. She also leaves behind her cherished brothers Il, Kon, Woo and Kwang Kim, and her nieces and nephews, and their children.
