Geez pal this one is shocking. Get those continental breakfasts ready.......here comes Tom. One of the funniest times ever, sharing a hotel room with you guys. We are all so sad,heart broken. Had to break the news to Brian over the phone because he's on business in Texas. Please look over him and all of Tom's family especially Thomas and Andrew. I know the pain that they are enduring. Hope you two are having a few laughs. Today Heaven got so much funnier. I'm gonna miss the times that me and Tom would tell comical stories about our dads. You are gone a year, and never a week goes by that I don't think of you and tears fill my eyes. It has been very hard.  Miss you, miss our phone calls, miss laughing and joking with you and I know that you are in a good place. You were my very first best friend and you left too soon. We had a hard childhood but we saw the humor and not the sadness of it as Daddy tried to do his best. You will always be with me. Josie

On your one year "birthday" in heaven, I'm reminded of one of the great Reddisms of all time-"they don't sell watches that go backwards,kid". So true! Know what else they don't sell? MEMORIES...those are made. I can say that I have so many terrific,heartfelt,chaotic,funny and loving ones. Over the course of the last year I've spoken to so many people going through the "process". They all say the same things. So I just resign myself to the fact that it will always hurt. But then I go to those home movies in my heart or the snap shots in my head or the Reddisms in my ears- those memories I refered to and the craziest thing happens- I laugh. Man oh man did we have fun!,, I asked a friend-how do I go on? She sed- when you lose someone  that was larger than life there will be good times and bad times but not the greatest times or worst times. There will always be something missing. So true. I miss you more than I can ever express in words. Please continue to look over all of us that miss you. Kiss the gang for me. I will miss you for all my days dad. But I have a life to live with so many treasures in it. I pass on all our stories and all of our funny memories as often as I can. More importantly I try to improve myself using your advice. Whether it's through  things you thought you were good at and more importantly the things you said you could've done better. My Dearest Father,
      Happy Father's Day fruitcake.Just another day right? Isn't everyday Mother's Day and Father's Day? I remember you always saying that stuff. Job never ends!!! You used to tell me being a parent is harder then being the president!LOL. But today isn't just another day now is it.? A day set aside for us guys. It's a day to appreciate our dads and grandpas and all the men in our lives who are doing their best to be the best fathers they can. I rely on all of them for advice and as examples. I draw on the lessons that you and Bill and Joe have shown me. I carry those life lessons with me daily. It's amazing what you can learn when you're not paying attention!!!  Right,wrong or indifferent- be who you are!  Never apologize for that but never be closed minded. Always listen and learn. That your way may not be the right way. Don't be ignorant. That people only talk about you because they're jealous. God gave you two  ears and one mouth so you can listen twice as much as you speak. Accept people for what they are. If they're a moron and you know,it then it's you're fault for being a morons friend.  I think that your greatest lessons were taught through your flaws. Freely sharing with me your  short comings that you wished were different. But without excuses.these are things I always think about and apply to my life.  Man oh man do I miss you. Still hard to fathom that you aren't here. But in essence you really are still.  Crazy how you become your parents. Saying stuff to your kids that you hated when your parents said to you!!  But without these things we wouldn't be who we are. But I'll tell you this dad, I know who I am. What I am. I'm a good person. Loyal friend. A good father. Hard worker. A good listener . A friend to my brothers and sisters. A disciple of Joseph Gentili.  Raised by William and Helen. Step son of carol. Nurtured in love by Noramary. And most of all I am your son,Michael. Happy birthday Missing you terribly on what would have been the big 75! Been a tough go the last month or so. St.paddy's, mommy 2 year anniversary and now today. Ironically on a Sunday.  Always called you on Sunday,at the very least to chat. I am in the exact spot I would always call from to..creatures of habit huh?would give anything to hear your voice,talk Yankees,talk life. Haven't spoken or seen anybody in a while, guess that's my fault. I try but alone is where I like to be mostly. I'm sure in time that will change. Or at least I hope so. So many people I know are losing parents now. I don't even try to offer words of comfort-they don't exist. Dr.weiland just keeps telling me to  take my time, don't force anything. Easier said then done. I think of you and mommy constantly. Pray to you guys for guidance. Got one last "first" in August that I'm dreading but with your help I'll get through it. I miss you more than words can say. Feel free to visit. Say hello to mom, grandma,grandpa,big joe, cookie and if you see Betty tell her the acreage is going strong! Love you my man. Talk soon.

Hey pal. It's been awhile I know. Waiting for the fog to go away but it doesn't. So I guess this is how life is going to be. I find it very difficult sometimes to fathom that not only are you not here to talk to but neither is mommy. It's just weird. Life is weird. How I view things is weird. I've gone from being a guy who loved being around people to a loner. I don't know maybe I'm jaded. Losing the two of you, so close in time,has made me not want to be close to anyone. Just plod through the motions I guess. I know people perceive me as standoffish or distant now but so be it. Everybody deals with stuff differently I guess. I hope to be back to myself soon. I don't know if that will ever be again. I like to think that one day I will. In the mean time I don't force it. Just let life come to me and do the best I can. Continue to watch over us. We're all suffering alone and together. I know you  must be happy how much closer we all are. Just wish you and mom were around,in body, to enjoy it too. Well here it is. The second high holy day of the year according to Red. St Pat's and Christmas being the others. I'll be heading to Allison's shortly to join everybody else. Oh and you're there too,which is both weird and extremely funny! Today is rough for sure. When I was old enough ,today was a day that I chose to celebrate with you,carol and my brothers. Lots of times we went to the Webers and when we didn't we were up in 31k. So much funny. Just goofing and drinking and busting chops. Last few years you and carol would go and cook for the "old" folks. That still gets me-super funny. But where you were or I was didn't matter, we always spoke and wished each other love. I'm trying to put aside that sadness today. Gotta be thankful, yes? We'll I'm thankful I had you 42 years. My best friend,my mentor,my hero, my dad. Love you pal. Talk soon-Mike

What's different today then yesterday? Nothing as far as I can tell. Why is it then that I can't stop crying? I don't even feel it coming on, it's just there. Like walking into a brick wall. Maybe it's because of the report? It answered some questions but leads to others. The good news is that your hair was 2 inches long and you had symmetric ears lol! I just miss you pal. Spent the week with Joe "o'donnell" and his family out on a lake. Great time. Change of scenery but same ol brain activity. Constantly find myself staring into space. This whole thing is very surreal. People are in disbelief still. Especially me. I'm trying pal. Just so heavy. A lady bug has shown up in the house. Michelle says its you, pop pop. Who am I to argue? Well another Sunday is here..I called the house,I guess everyone is out. We are all getting back to our "normal"lives I guess. 
Chrissy said they brought you home yesterday after a drive around the neighborhood. That's great. Well I called the house this morning, just like every Sunday. Spoke to carol. Everyone is trying to get going but it's difficult. Watching you drive away yesterday was the toughest. Hated it when I was 7 or 18 or 33. Hated when you left me. But just like always I watched till I couldn't see you anymore. It's the thing I hated most my whole life and yesterday was no exception.

So we're at your home base- three decker diner. Everyone here misses you. No body sits in your seat,still. They said,"oh your red's  family?" We proudly say YES!!! They said unfortunately your father never paid the full amout for his coffee. The cost is really $1.30 and apparently you continually only paid a $1.00!!!your balance is $19,534!!!! So we ran on the check!! Lol

We are sincerely sorry for your loss. Our deepest condolences to the McCabe family.

1958 met a pin chaser at the playdrome bowling alley who became a very good friend. he was a mentor to our daughters Lisa,Dina and Rosette.He was their baby sitter and taught them how to dance,he curled their hair and made them cry,because they looked like lucy from Charlie Brown He took them frog hunting in Yonkers laughed at their jokes,and amused them He was part of the family. Hewill surely be missed.I hope he finished the book he was always talking about . Carol you have a wonderful family and I know they will be there for you.We send you all our love and sympathy. As a child, I was sure he stood 7ft tall.  He was the storybook uncle who brought laughter, revelry and chaos but never discipline.  He was the source of colossal bear hugs, the chef of mammoth breakfasts, tour guide of the city and the only person that would dare to be late for dinner.  He was the uncle that everyone should have.    
Throughout my life, I have learned little things from him that are fond memories which make nostalgic stories like how to use chop sticks and never go to China Town on the 4th of July.  But the big things, the life lessons that matter…well those have become part of who I am now.   He has over the years helped me understand family, relationships, children and life.   His history, his wisdom and his love of family are the legacy that he and his sisters have gifted to me and I in turn hope to bequeath to the ones who follow me.  I was blessed to have Uncle Red in my life and heartbroken that his time with us has come to a close.  With his passing, our family parts with another of our distinguished and beloved elders.  Neither time nor words of comfort ease that sorrow. 
 May he rest in peace and live in our hearts forever.

I always liked you Red! You were always joking laughing and friendly.  My Mother who knew you also felt the same way. When she was very sick and battling a long illness whenever we met the first words out of your mouth was How is your Mother?  We had some good times in Rockaway , some memories are vague.
