Ira Gitler passed away on February 23rd at age 90. He is survived by his wife Mary Jo, son Fitz, granddaughter Daphne and grandson James. Ira wrote about jazz for seven decades, produced recordings and concerts, and taught jazz history to generations of musicians. Ira also wrote extensively about ice hockey, coached and played with Gitler’s Gorillas until his mid 70s. A memorial service will be held Riverside Memorial Chapel in New York City on Sunday, March 10, at 2:30pm.
