Dr. Rothfeld was an excellent doctor. I saw him in his Astoria office  in 2019. He accurately identified what every other doctor had missed. His advice saved my life.

Our sincerest condolences to Angela & family. We have many wonderful memories of spending time with you & Ira , whether it was at our homes or a Surgeons dinner or other NYPD event. We also remember enjoying special times with you both at the annual Astoria Civic Association dinners. We will always have a special place in our hearts for Ira, a  dry dear friend. May God continue to Bless him & reward him for a life well lived.

Dr. Rothfeld was such an amazing surgeon, a compassionate and caring doctor, and all around wonderful human being. I was Dr. ROTHFELD’s office manager for 4 years. I always told him you’re like a father figure to me, and he replied telling me don’t say that loud I don’t need anyone to figure out my age. Dr. Rothfeld and Angela came to my children’s parties, he came to my dads 80th surprise birthday. Dr. Rothfeld and my father loved talking about their old cars. When my son was 2 years old Dr. Rothfeld sat next to my father and myself till he work. I had the pleasure spending some time with him last month. Angela my dearest I am here for you my lovely friend. May you rest in peace and your memory be eternal.

I had the pleasure of being Dr. Ira’s office manager for 4 years. He loved coming to my children’s parties, talking to my dad about cars, and being like a second father to me. When my son had his tubes and adenoids out at 2 years old he sat by me because it took time to wake up. His wife Angela was always helping me with the office. What a classy lady. Dr. Rothfeld was a lucky man to find Angela to be his lovely wife. The world has lost a phenomenal surgeon, a trust worthy and compassionate doctor, and most of all a wonderful human being. I had the pleasure to spend some time with him last month. I will miss you my dear sir. Rest in peace and may your memory be eternal. 

My deepest sympathy to Dr. Rothfeld’s beloved wife and devoted staff. I have known him for 26 years and enjoyed working with him at Lenox Hill Hospital. His patients were truly blessed by his expertise and compassion. May he rest with his sister Susan and in God’s loving arms. 💔🙏🏻

I am so sorry to hear of Ira’s death. I had the pleasure of knowing him for a very long time. He was my Dad’s colleague and my Mom’s physician; they both admired and respected him.

I looked forward to seeing him every year at the Honorary Police Surgeons dinner and will miss his warm welcome and remembrances of my parents, Dr. Clarence Robinson and Dr. Thelma Lennard.

Dr. Ira Rothfeld was an exceptional physician and leader.  He provided excellent care to his patients, continuing to practice otolaryngology until about 90 years of age!   He served as an Honorary Police Surgeon for the NYPD for over 30 years.  Dr. Rothfeld founded the Society of Honorary Police Surgeons and was our first president.   His dedication to the NYPD and to our society knew no bounds.  His energy seemed limitless.  

Ira was also warm and a loyal friend.  I will miss him very much.

Ira D Rothfeld MD was an extraordinary man and an esteemed colleague/Ent Specialist who I referred patients to for many years.His patients absolutely adored him as he always showed  compassion and concern  for their care. He loved what he did  and worked long hours and always went the extra mile to accommodate his patients.He was genuine, kind, charismatic and he was proud and loved to tell stories  about his past  and would often show you pictures of  famous people  he met that was picture framed on his office wall. He was a humanitarian as well as a historian..He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife Angela who he loved very much. Dr Rothfeld was an extremely intelligent man and a phenomenal doctor.  I was  so lucky to have known such an exceptional individual  who I gained so much wisdom from throughout the many years I have known him.Dr Rothfeld will be truly missed and never forgotten.My deepest sympathies and condolences to his wife Angela/Family/Friends and Colleagues of Ira D Rothfeld MD.

Dr. Ira D. Rothfeld was the founding and long-serving President of the New York City Honorary Police Surgeons organization, an Honorary Member of the Shomrim Society, in addition to serving as a United States Air Force Captain, Flight Surgeon and Acting Hospital Commander. 

Dr. Rothfeld was an esteemed colleague and ENT specialist, who became a NYPD Honorary Surgeon in 1989 and served with distinction and dedication for over 30 years. He was instrumental in forming the Honorary Police Surgeon Program and shepherding it into what it is today, by liaising with the Department Surgeons and integrating the Honorary Police Surgeon Corps into its disaster response protocols. 
Dr. Rothfeld will be remembered for his dogged determination and unceasing caring for the men and women of the NYPD. His was a labor of love, for which he will  sorely be missed.


Ira Rothfeld was an extraordinary person. He was the ideal Doctor who was truly concerned about all of his patients.

Ira was an Honorary Police Surgeon, an Honorary Member of The Shomrim Society, New York  City Police Department and a proud  United States Air Force Captain, having served in Tule Greenland as a Flight Surgeon during the Cold War.

My deepest condolences to his wife Angela and to his many friends and colleagues. I was blessed to have known him and to call him my friend. May his memory be for a blessing.
