I had the privilege of knowing Michael and working with him at Related Companies and as he set up Related Capital. We have daughters around the same ages and often spoke of school and projects in addition, of course, to company matters. Met Janet on various occasions and our daughters often played together when they visited the office when they were little. Then he left Related to pursue other ventures, but we would occasionally run into each other.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I know their wonderful memories together will comfort them during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy,
Susan McGuire

I just found out today about Michaels passing. It is so tragic. I last saw him at a community meeting we held in my yard less than a week before his death. I did not have many interactions with Michael, but he was always so sage in his advice and cared deeply about his community. My condolences to Michael’s family, friends and loved ones.

As our next door neighbor up in Copake, we knew and had profound respect for Michael. Like others,we were extremely upset to hear this morning about his passing. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Janet, his children and their spouses and to his grandchildren. Michael never tired of telling us how terrific they are and we share his opinion about them. Janet, anything we can do, please ask.

This news is terribly sad. Michael was one of a kind, and truly inspired so many. I had the pleasure of shopping sites with Michael for two full days, and I learned so much more about him. Not only was he an amazing real estate mogul, but he had a passion for so many things! Even writing and poetry, which surprised me. Michael was a mentor, an inspiration, a born leader, and most of all a wonderful family man. He never ever stopped talking about his beautiful family, the next big trip, or spending the smallest of moments. He will be remembered so very fondly. One of the nicest, most sincere people I have ever met.

When I read of Michael's passing this morning, my heart just broke. Over the last 5 years, I had come to know and really respect him. He was unique and special & his love for his family was undeniable.
I missed his last visit a few weeks ago and I was so sad then and now even more so. I will always appreciate his passion, kindness and his belief in me. He was the bright light in the room. We will miss you very much Michael. Rest in Peace.

In the short time I knew Michael I was incredibly impressed by his love and care for his family, his business wisdom, and his willingness to spend time as a mentor to myself and my son. He will certainly be missed.

Micheal was a mentor to me. He took time out of his busy schedule to help the younger generation rise to success. He was warm, caring and giving. He gave a complimentary real estate mentoring sessions recently and took all the students out to reserve cut for dinner at the completion of the course. He will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the family.
