To everyone who ever knew Jack Bloom, I feel your loss. We are all better off for having known him and for having him in our lives, no matter what our relationship was with him. 

Jack was passionate about his family, music, politics, and sports. He treated others with dignity and respect. I always looked up to him. 

I missed him when he moved from Chicago to New York. Our golf days together ended. The distance and time removed him from any day-to-day relationship, but I thought about him often, and always with love and affection.

Thank you, Jack!

Jack Bloom Is My Dad.

No one ever loved his father more than I love my Dad.

There are no words...not really. My Mom and Dad were two of the most unique people on the planet.  I am so proud of my Dad and I wanted him to be proud of me.

All his interests became my interests along with the  
passion that went along with them.  From Music, Movies, The White Sox, The Blackhawks, Politics, People and Love. 

His magnificent, fast, clever, sense of humor. 

His way of analyzing information and his intricate logic opened a new way of thinking that influenced my every thought. His love for Mom, Hermine, was the strongest love I've ever witnessed. His love for his four brothers, for me and my brother Howard, and extended family, knew no bounds.

There was a baseball game we devised in the backyard of 73rd Street, where we bonded and "competed.: It was a game that I love to this day. we used to play board hockey at night.  All day I practiced, and waited, hoping he would play, and he did!
I mostly lost, but I learned, and I got better, and then I got good!

Every second I spent together with my Dad, each telephone conversation, are something I cherish. Somehow when he lived in Chicago, We lived and worked in NYC, and when I moved to Chicago, he moved to NYC. I always played as a musician, a singer, and guitar player, and while growing up, any time I played, I saw him, in the shadows, sitting in the back of the room, always quietly supporting my career.

If I could make him laugh, nothing ever made me happier!

I have three daughters of my own, Hermine, (Mina),    
named for my Mother, Sarah, named for my Mother's Mother Sonya, and Julie, named for My dad's oldest brother, my Uncle Joe, and now my Dad.

I cherish them more than anything on earth. They are my world! They are on my mind and in my heart every single moment, of every single day.

That's something I understand by being brought up by 
my Mom and Dad.

Jack was my favorite uncle when I was growing up.  He was always "the cool uncle", turned me onto the Chicago Blackhawks, jazz music and great vocalists..  Erudite and always immaculately dressed will be how I remember him.  Going to visit him, his wife Hermine and my cousin Bob was always an excursion that I looked forward to.  Jack, you will be missed.

His ways of analyzing information and the fundamentals of his intricate logic, inspired a new way of thinking, that influenced my every thought. His love for My Mom, 
Hermine, was stronger than any love I have  
ever known his love for his four brothers, his parents, his in-laws, and his extended family knew no bounds. And they all loved him right back!

His attention to me, and my brother Howard....A day of playing baseball in the backyard on 73rd Street, devising a game where we could bond and "compete", is something I cherish to this day. Playing board hockey at night; I practiced and waited all day, in the hopes that he would play, and he did! I mostly lost, but I learned, and got better, and finally, I got good.

When I would stay out too late, he would sit up waiting for me on the couch...sigh when I walked in,...and walk down the hall to his bedroom shared with my Mom.....his message received.

They are my world! I love them more than words can ever say, every second, with every molecule of my being! I was brought up by my Mom and Dad!

I cherish every second I spent with my Dad, together, or on  telephone conversations. If I could make him laugh, nothing ever made me happier! I would replay our conversations, over and over in my head.

All My Love Forever! / Bob

Jack was one of those influences I had in my life beginning at the age of five when his oldest son, Robert (Bob) and I began what has turned out to be a 60 year friendship. 

As Bob and I entered the various stages of growing up, Jack was always there as the adult willing to listen and advise on the huge events in the life of a pre-teenager or teenager and ultimately as an adult. I am talking about those events that I suffered through- whether a disappointing loss of the football game or the proper way to be a victor in a singing competition when it was important to emphasize the fundraising aspect of the event and not the competitive feature of it. 

Given the length of time I knew Jack, we celebrated life cycle events as well. I remember the joy in his voice when he described this woman he met(Karyn) or I described Sandy, the woman who became my wife. He was there when my daughter was born and Jack described to me what it was to be a Father. 

Of course I saw Jack less and less as the years went by. I returned to Chicago while Jack and Karyn stayed in NY. Still I would occasionally hear about all of Jack's kids(besides Bob who suffers through a brother like relationship with me) and I would tell him about my daughter. Even though decades had passed by I would still try and call Jack annually on his birthday. I feel bad that lately, as his health deteriorated, I almost never connected on those calls but let there be no doubt, I still feel his presence some 60 years later from that first time I visited Bob at his house. 

You know- that was Jack. I suspect years from now I will still hear his words of advice.
