The heartbroken family of Jane Weprin-Menzi, mourns her death on September 15th from pancreatic cancer. Jane was 86. An ever-caring, elegant and vital icon to us all. Jane was pre-deceased by her loving husbands, Jack Weprin and Donald Menzi and is survived by her children and her more-than-just-in-laws: Julie and Ryan, Michael and Anne, Andrew, Adam and Davina, her beloved grandchildren Ariela, Connor, Cooper, Chloe, Samira, Lily and Jack, and by her step-children Aaron and Aara, Richard, Mark and Sandy, Rachel and Roberto, and her step-grandchildren Valdis, Liev, Rachel, Gabriella, Teresa and William, and by her brother and sister-in-law William and Marla, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A passionate lifelong New Yorker, Jane Abraham moved from her Bronx roots to Manhattan when she married Jack, ultimately ending up in the cherished home she said she could never have imagined, in Greenwich Village.
In the early years of the legendary Bridge Cafe, Jane enjoyed celebrations and dining with her husband Jack, taking the helm after Jack’s passing and continuing its legacy until Hurricane Sandy ended the Bridge's tenure as the longest continuously serving bar/ liquor establishment in NYC. Fittingly the last meal made at the Bridge was a to-go order for Jane & Donald on October 28, 2012.
Jane was socially active as a mentor and past president of the child abuse prevention agency, SCAN and was a board member of the American Friends of the Israel Museum.
Spiritually, Jane was actively engaged at West End Synagogue since her time as a founding member. Serving as President and continuing as a Board Member, West End is the source of many important friendships and a path of continuous learning. Her sense of curiosity and deep thinking never abandoned her.
To her final weeks, Jane was the rock of wisdom and comfort for so many, while never losing her sense of humor. Her spontaneous singing of Kurt Weill’s September song, spurred by a nurse asking her what day it was on September 1st, will bring us to tears and smiles forever.
