The daughter of a prominent Parisian family, Janine Torigian passed away peacefully at her Houston home on January 23rd, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was a graduate of Pantheon Law School of the University of Paris France. She also attains a Master’s Degree in International Affairs at the WTSU branch at Texas A&M University. Soon after arriving to Austin, Texas, in 1968, Janine began to promote French culture by producing and directing a program in French at KHFI-AM which lasted one year. She then founded the “Alliance Française” of Austin with the encouragement of the French exchange students. Its activities continue to this day.
Janine was an accomplished classical pianist. At the tender age of 10, she was a laureate of the Concours International Leopold Bellan and became a pupil of (Maestro) Maitre Morpain.
She is survived by a daughter, Christine, two sons John and Michael, a granddaughter Jessica, and two great granddaughters Georgia and Charlotte. Following a private funeral, she will be interred in a family plot at the Woodlawn Cemetery in New York City.
