Jerry Woloz, 83, born in Brooklyn NY, peacefully passed away on October 21st 2024.
Jerry Woloz was an educator and social services manager for many decades. During his career he helped the poor and homeless on the Bowery and throughout the city to find shelter , employment and hope. His impact was vast. He had a second career as a social studies teacher at Junior High School 189 in Flushing Queens where he taught for 20 years and served as the school’s dean.
Jerry had many interests including history , politics, music and art. He spent his early years in East New York Brooklyn then many years in Los Angeles before returning to New York City where he lived in Manhattan and later Flushing , Queens where he raised his family. He held undergraduate and graduate degrees in social services and education.
Jerry is survived by Marilyn Woloz , his wife of 54 years, two sons, Michael and Jason and two grandchildren Gabriel and Olivia as well as his daughter in law Claire and daughter in law Blaire.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Hebrew Home at Riverdale .
A funeral for Jerry will be held on Tuesday October 22 at Riverside Memorial Chapel located at 180 West 76th Street at 12pm.
Following the funeral , a burial will take place at Wellwood Cemetary at 1400 Wellwood Avenue West Babylon NY.
