

Jill Harren Shaifer, of Riverdale, New York, is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born in 1941 in the Bronx, New York. After a long illness with PSP she passed away on January 4, 2026 at the age of 84.
Daughter of Rose and George Harren, she attended Russell Sage College in Troy, New York and received her Masters from Columbia Teachers College.
Jill is survived by her husband of fifty-five years Jack, sister, Carol Harren, son Seth (wife Jennifer) and grandchildren Aidan and Meira. Throughout her life, Jill was known for her dedication to learning and her kindness. She was also a patron of many NYC cultural and charitable institutions.
She spent 37 years working as a public school teacher in the NY city pubic school system and also spent time after her retirement as a mentor to teachers. She has touched the lives of many of her former students (many of whom she kept in contact) and was deeply loved. She found joy in travel all over the world and her work with school and teaching children and she especially treasured time in her trips to the beach with her husband, Jack.
Service arrangements will be a graveside service at Temple Israel Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Cure PSP.
