

of New York City passed away peacefully on October 16, 2017. She also resided in Hong Kong and Tokyo. Mrs. Fu was predeceased by her loving husband of 41 years, Z.Y. Fu, an international businessman and philanthropist. Their legacy endures at Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science and the endowed Fu Foundation Chair in Applied Mathematics. Mr. and Mrs. Fu were generous donors to schools and hospitals in the United States and China. Mrs. Fu, the daughter of Ju Tang and Wu Ping Chu, was born in Shanghai in 1932. She spoke Mandarin, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Japanese and English fluently. Prior to her marriage, she was in public relations for many years at Jardine’s, a British conglomerate, in Hong Kong. Mrs. Fu had a social gift. Her tremendous style and flair impressed all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She touched the hearts of all with her warmth, humor and generosity. Mrs. Fu is survived by her sister Yvonne Meinwald, brothers John Chu and Theodore Chu, nieces, nephew, grand-niece and grand-nephews. She was very close to her husband’s family. He was one of thirteen children and is survived by three generations of Fu family members. Mrs. Fu was loved by her extended family, friends and associates and will be deeply missed. A service will be held at Frank E. Campbell, “The Funeral Chapel,” 1076 Madison Av. on Sunday, October 29th at 11 am.
